At Jam City, we’re passionate about building great games—and even more passionate about helping our team grow along the way. Our Apprentice Program in South America was designed to do just that—support internal talent by providing training in other areas of the company and promoting development with the guidance of experienced mentors.
Let’s hear from Mery, who started their career at Jam City in QA and, through the Apprentice Program, were able to explore their passion for Game Design.
“Joining the Apprentice Program was a huge turning point for me. I moved from a QA role into a Designer role, learning from amazing mentors who guided me every step of the way. Today I feel like I’m exactly where I’ve always wanted to be.”
What motivated you to apply for the Apprentice Program and what were your expectations at the beginning?
I was motivated by the opportunity to learn professionally and continue developing within the company. There are very few training initiatives like this in the industry, so the Apprentice Program was an excellent way to strengthen my skills and show the value I can bring. At first, my expectations were moderate due to some personal doubts, but the experience far exceeded what I imagined: the program gave me practical tools and, most importantly, greater confidence in my abilities.
Can you share a key learning or moment that had a significant impact on your development during the program?
I had several key moments that helped strengthen both my technical and soft skills. Working in new areas and with different tools allowed me to step out of my comfort zone. Each sprint was a learning opportunity: I gained a deeper understanding of how the game works and grew more solidly as a designer.
How did the presence of your mentor influence your experience and growth throughout the process?
The support of my mentor was essential. Their guidance, constructive feedback, and constant encouragement were key to my professional growth. Thanks to their support, I could move forward confidently and go much further than I would have on my own.
In what ways did the program help prepare you for future roles or opportunities within the company?
The program gave me a more comprehensive understanding of how things work internally and helped me identify where and how I can add the most value. It gave me practical tools and allowed me to better connect my work in QA with my role as a designer. I was able to deepen my understanding of both processes, which gave me a more complete perspective of the development cycle—from implementing new features to validating them. As a result, I was able to collaborate more effectively with QA and help streamline production timelines.
